House of the Virgin Mary: Our first stop is the House of the Virgin Mary. Located 8 km from Ephesus on the slopes of Mount Aladağ, it is believed that Mary came to Ephesus with St. John in AD 37 and lived here until her death in AD 48. It became a pilgrimage site in 1892. On July 26, 1967, Pope Paul VI visited and prayed here. (1 hour, entrance ticket included)
Ephesus Ancient City: Our second stop is the Ephesus Ancient City. We will begin our visit to Ephesus, one of Turkey‘s most significant sites located near Izmir, which was one of the 12 cities of the Ionian League (an ancient Greek region on the western coast of Anatolia). As a port city, it served as an important gateway to Asia Minor‘s trade routes. Walk through the marble streets lined with magnificent public buildings, including the Scholastica Baths and the Library of Celsus, built in memory of Gaius Julius Celsus Polemaeanus, the proconsul of the Asian Province in the early 2nd century AD, by his son Gaius Julius Aquila. The Temple of Hadrian and the Great Theatre are two of the most impressive structures in Ephesus. (2 hours, entrance ticket included)
Ephesus Terrace Houses: The Terrace Houses are located at the foot of Mount Pion and consist of six residences built on three artificial terraces. These houses were inhabited by the wealthy citizens of Ephesus and were lavishly decorated with wall frescoes and floor mosaics. There are many steps to climb from bottom to top. Terrace Houses are included only in the Private and Terrace House options. (30 minutes, entrance ticket included)
Temple of Artemis: Our final stop, before returning to Kuşadası city center and the port, is the Temple of Artemis, once one of the Seven Wonders of the Ancient World. (20 minutes, free entrance ticket)
